100 Step Fundraiser

‘The Hundred steps’ is notorious in Pontardawe. An ‘optimistic’ name as there are closer to two hundred than the name suggests. Famous in these parts as a fitness regime for the greatest rugby player ever (Gareth Edwards) who would run up the steps at his time in school in Pontardawe. We want to make more of these steps and the history behind them. An annual Fun Day at the Pontardawe Golf Club where the steps come out, where we have time trials for anybody to enter running from the bottom to the top of these steps.
An individual time trial where set times are put in as well as a team relay event where the likes of Pontardawe Rugby club can race against the Pontardawe running club, Pontardawe Football club and associations from neighbouring villages and Towns.
With the money raised, we would invest in a genuine plaque to celebrate Gareth Edwards at the steps and as an annual event, it would benefit the community by showing off one of our famous sites.
